  • Adoption and Sanctification

When a human being is not yet adopted in the family of God through salvation in Christ, he or she ARE NOT CHILDREN OF GOD, but children of the wrath of God EPHESIANS 2:1-3. Unredeemed human beings are by nature enemies of God ROMANS 1:18-32;ROMANS 3:10-19;ROMANS 5:10. They are therefore creatures of God but NOT children of God, so human beings of the world are not children of God and they are not brothers and sisters of believers in Christ. To have God as Father we have to be adopted by God through Christ. Who is not adopted in God’s family, in other words who is not son or daughter of God is therefore by nature a child of the devil ROMANS 8:41-44

All those who are elected for salvation are called efficaciously and are justified through faith and grace of God. We are therefore the adopted children of God JOHN 1:12-13 and those to whom a guarantee is given in and trough Jesus Christ we are accepted in the Beloved Son of God for adoption into God’s family EPHESIANS 1:5-6. Included therefore in the number we enjoy the special privileges and blessings as God’s children. God places upon us His blessed name and we receive by grace the Spirit of adoption we have access to the presence of God with confidence and we cry out Abba Father ROMANS 8:15-17;GALATIANS 4:5-7, we are taken in compassion and mercy, protected and provided by our Father and God. We are never left behind or abandoned but instead sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption and for the inheritance of eternal salvation 2 CORINTHIANS 1:22; EPHESIANS 1:13-14; EPHESIANS 4:30. It is the Holy Spirit who baptizes us in the body of Christ making us children of God, one with Christ, one with the Father 1 CORINTHIANS 12:13.

The elect, called, justified and adopted by God’s grace are also sanctified by God, really and personally sanctified 2 THESSALONIANS 2:13-14, through the virtues and the complete work of Jesus Christ 1 CORINTHIANS 1:30-31, His life, death and resurrection, through His word and His Spirit who dwells in the elect. Sanctification is completely and totally bu God’s grace because it is part of salvation PHILIPPIANS 2:12-13, so then if salvation is only by grace and faith so then also sanctification has to be. It cannot be by works but only by the action and power of the Holy Spirit 1 CORINTHIANS 6:11; 1 PETER 1:2. The dominion of sin is destroyed ROMANS 6:1-23 and the desires of the flesh are gradually weakened and mortified. The elect of God therefore, are increasingly fortified through God’s grace in the practice of holiness LUKE 1:74-75 without which process of sanctification leading to the practice of holiness no one can see God HEBREWS 12:10-14.

However the believer remains unfortunately imperfect during his sojourn in this life because in him remain the residue of corruption present in the flesh, the body which wars against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh ROMANS 7:1-25;Galati 5:17. In this war however the grace and power of God provides continuous strength for continuous practice of sanctification ROMANS 1:1-3, that perfects itself in not conforming to this world but transforming by the renewing of the mind by the word of God ROMANS 12:1-2;2 CORINTHIANS 10:3-5 in holiness and in the fear of God 2 CORINTHIANS 7:1.

Romans 6:22-23 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
